Are you working on a Sustainability Project? Do you need to find information? The Georgia Tech Library is here to help! Georgia Tech Librarians are here to support the research of the GT community. In response to Georgia Tech's new Strategic Plan, with its emphasis on the Sustainable Development Goals, Leslie Sharp, dean of libraries, wanted the Sustainability Research Guide, which was created in 2019 when the Kendenda Building had its opening symposium, updated. Bette Finn updated the guide to include information about the UN SDGs. Isabel Altamirano, the librarian who serves as the primary point of contact for SLS and sustainability resources, announced the updated resource for students and faculty.
In this type of interdisciplinary work, the updated Research Guide serves to provide resources that can jumpstart any search, and now includes an explanation and information about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). The guide is located on the library website here: https://libguides.gatech.edu/sustainability.
If you need more assistance, the point of contact is Isabel Altamirano (isabel.altamirano@library.gatech.edu). She can examine your question and work with the other Librarians to provide an in-depth reply.
The Georgia Tech Sustainability Librarians are:
Isabel Altamirano (Engineering & Chemistry)
Bette Finn (Electrical & Computer Engineering and GTRI)

On Wednesday, March 24th, from 10:00am - 11:15am, the Georgia Tech Library, in collaboration with Serve-Learn-Sustain and the Atlanta Global Studies Center, will present the event Mapping How Science May Contribute to the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.
Dr. Ismael Rafols, senior researcher at Leiden University in the Netherlands, will present a bibliometric analysis on how publications may be related to the various UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Rather than providing a single mapping of publications to each SDG, they propose a plural landscape for diverse stakeholders to explore the relationship according to their own views. To do so, they will describe an interactive platform that allows users to scrutinize publications related to SDGs in a global map of science. Dr. Rebecca Watts Hull from the Center for Serve-Learn-Sustain will be moderating this virtual event, and Dr. Sebnem Ozkan from the Atlanta Global Studies Center will introduce the event.
About the Speaker: Ismael Rafols is a senior researcher at CWTS. He works on the development of novel approaches to Science & Technology indicators for informing evaluation, foresight and research strategies. His current focus is on research priority setting, in particular for societal challenges such as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in health and agriculture.
About the Moderator: Rebecca Watts Hull is an environmental sociologist with professional experience in environmental education and advocacy. She is a Service Learning and Partnerships Specialist for the Center for Serve-Learn-Sustain and an Adjunct Academic Professional in the School of History and Sociology at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia.
