Georgia Tech’s Center for Sustainable Communities Research and Education (SCoRE) is thrilled to welcome Alexandra Rodriguez Dalmau as our new Community-Engaged Sustainability Project Manager, a role that bridges the Institute’s research with community-driven action across the Southeast.
Alex joins the SCoRE team with a deep connection to Georgia Tech and a passion for linking research, education, and communities to create lasting impact. Originally from the Dominican Republic, Alex moved to Atlanta to pursue her studies at Georgia Tech, earning both a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering and a Master of Sustainable Energy and Environmental Management (MSEEM).
Her journey with SCoRE began as an undergraduate as part of their summer internship program, continued through her work as a Graduate Research Assistant, and has now come full circle with her transition into a full-time role.
Alex’s work as a GRA and now as a SCoRE staff member focuses on our initiatives engaging communities in emerging energy transition technologies from research through design and deployment. Her major job this year is to help lead our regional community engagement initiative with the Southeast DAC (Direct Air Capture) Hub, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. This work entails working with community and technology partners in four states across the Southeast to co-develop and implement the Southeast Community Energy Futures Academy (SCEFA), a regional initiative advancing community-centered approaches to emerging energy transition technologies. Alex’s work bridges research and practice, ensuring that innovation remains rooted in real-world impact. Through initiatives like SCEFA, she helps connect community visions for energy, climate, and sustainability with Georgia Tech’s research capabilities.

Alex’s appointment represents an exciting new chapter for SCoRE as the center continues expanding its community-engaged sustainability research and partnerships across the Southeast and collaborating with partners and with units across campus to establish strong community-engaged research principles and develop unique approaches to workforce development. Her path, from environmental engineering student to Community-Engaged Sustainability Project Manager, embodies Georgia Tech’s mission to connect rigorous research with real-world collaboration that fosters thriving, equitable communities.
Outside of her work at Georgia Tech, Alex brings the same energy and collaboration she values at SCoRE to her life beyond campus. She plays on multiple roller derby teams and is an active member of Atlanta Roller Derby, where she serves in several leadership roles. She also enjoys calmer hobbies like camping, reading, painting, thrifting, and gardening.
Reflecting on her new role, Alex shared, “What excites me most is working alongside communities that are already leading on sustainability and resilience, and helping bridge their work with Georgia Tech’s research to directly support their visions for the future.”
