The United Nations defines sustainability as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” It has three pillars: the economy, society, and the environment. The United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals often referred to as the SDGs – lay out a road map for creating a sustainable world.Sustainability is a rapidly growing field, with job opportunities in engineering, science, management, education, economics, political science, urban planning, architecture, and more. It is important to note that sustainability is more than a specific role; it is a mindset and a way of living. Its interdisciplinary nature opens the door to many possible career paths.
