Ruthie Yow, Ph.D. serves as SCORE's Associate Director and holds a courtesy appointment in the School of History and Sociology. While at Georgia Tech, she has focused on cultivating strong community partnerships and supporting a vision of sustainability education and community-engaged research that centers equity and justice. Before joining the Center for Serve-Learn-Sustain team at Georgia Tech in 2017 her research and teaching focused on race, power, and education in the American South. Her book, Students of the Dream: Resegregation in a Southern City, (Harvard UP, 2017) documents the erosion of educational opportunity in metro Atlanta schools and how to address that deepening crisis. She serves on the Board and Executive Committee of the Asset-Based Community Development Institute and of Marietta YELLS (Youth Empowerment through Learning, Leading, and Serving). She has a PhD in American Studies and African American Studies from Yale University.
