As the Center for Sustainable Communities Research and Education (SCoRE) prepares to host Professor Juan Lucena for our Liam's Legacy 2023 Symposium: Humanitarian Engineering with Juan Lucena on Thursday, October 5th, we wanted to highlight our three Community Engaged Technology student fellows.  These students have been integral in the development and planning of this event.  We hope you can join us!

Who are the Community Engaged Technology Fellows?

My name is Sophia Ebbutt and I am a fourth-year Environmental Engineering student at Georgia Tech. I am passionate about creating sustainable and resilient water infrastructure. The CET Fellowship at SCoRE aligns with my interest in engineering for social good and has allowed me to develop my interest and learn more about how I can apply it impactfully. It has also been an excellent opportunity to learn more about engineering education and the importance of community engagement in engineering. 

Hello, I’m Samantha Mau, a second-year Computer Engineering student. My passion for community-engaged technology is rooted in my aspiration to combine my engineering skills with active community involvement. Through my summer internship at the West Atlanta Watershed Alliance (WAWA), I had the privilege of experiencing firsthand the significance of community engagement and I am eager to be able to continue that work through my involvement with CET. I am looking forward to applying my degree to create positive change and contribute to the well-being of others. 

My name is Eva Noertoft, and I’m a final-year Mechanical Engineering Student passionate about renewable energy systems. I am thrilled to be a Community Engaged Technology Fellow because I am particularly interested in the intersection of renewable energy and energy justice. I believe community engagement is essential to building an equitable renewable energy future, so I am excited to be around other students equally as invested in this approach to engineering and technology. I am also very excited to have the opportunity to interview Professor Juan Lucena, Director of the Humanitarian Engineering Undergraduate Program and Professor of Engineering, Design, and Society at the Colorado School of Mines, about the themes that animate his teaching and scholarship . . .
