Sustainable Communities Internship Program opportunities for Summer 2025 are listed below. They represent a diverse set of organizations and projects working on various issues as indicated in each description. All Georgia Tech students are welcome to apply. This experiential, professional development program aims to help students gain experience working with community partners on sustainability challenges and translate that experience into their life and career goals.

We are committed to supporting partners and students who are traditionally under-represented in sustainability and STEM fields. These include but are not limited to partners and students from racial/ethnic minority groups, women, limited income backgrounds, and first-generation college students.


Partner: 28ish

28ish is a data-driven platform dedicated to providing personalized health analytics and actionable insights for women.  Our mission is to make cyclical living accessible and efficient, enabling women to optimize their productivity and well-being. Our core focus is on translating menstrual cycle data into user-friendly dashboards and interactive tools that guide individuals through each phase.  By leveraging advanced tracking algorithms and research-based content, we decode the intricate patterns of hormonal shifts and the impact they have on every aspect of our users' lives.  Through our intuitive mobile application, participants can track their cycles, document symptoms, and review daily feedback.  Automated reminders and educational prompts deliver timely support, while streamlined analytics pinpoint trends and highlight potential imbalances.  With 28ish, women gain the knowledge and tools to master their own biological rhythms and build sustainable, healthy lifestyles. 

We anticipate internship opportunities ranging from hands-on software development (e.g. building or enhancing platform features) to helping craft and deploy our go-to-market strategy.  The intern may assist with refining data algorithms to better analyze user feedback, or support our marketing team in creating targeted campaigns that highlight the power of cyclical living.  We place a high value on collaboration and real-world learning  and we're excited to offer a dynamic environment where interns can contribute meaningfully to our mission of helping women harness their biological rhythms.

This internship has office space in Atlanta Tech Village and other co-working spaces, close to public transportation options.  The internship will be hybrid.  This partner is particularly interested in mentoring female student internship applicants.


Partner: A Sip of Paradise Garden

A Sip of Paradise Garden is a non profit bartender community garden based in Atlanta and founded to nurture both the creativity and well-being of the hospitality industry. Our mission is to provide a sustainable, collaborative space where bartenders and hospitality professionals can grow their own ingredients, connect with nature, and support their mental and physical health.  The garden empowers members by offering access to garden plots, workshops, and resources that promote sustainable agriculture and self-care practices.  Additionally, it serves as a hub for education and community building, hosting events that highlight the intersection of agriculture, food, and cocktails.  Through our retail line, Pieces of Paradise, we create salts, sugars, cordials, cocktail jams, pickles, and honey sourced from the garden and local producers. As a leader in the industry, we advocate for environmental, food, and community sustainability and aim to inspire the next generation of hospitality professionals. 

This intern will work closely with the executive director, the garden director and the communications director.  Projects will include the retail line, Pieces of Paradise, working on getting B Corp certified, developing additional sustainable practices, developing additional systems, grant writing, and planning.

This internship will be located in East Atlanta Village and Downtown Atlanta. Having access to a car is preferred but not required, however the intern should have a reliable source of transportation as they will split time in the physical garden.


Partner: Aligned AF

Aligned AF is a personal development lifestyle brand empowering women through productivity, accountability, and community.  Our coaching programs use proven techniques like goal-setting, visualization, and accountability to build confidence, foster connection, and inspire action.  We offer workshops, collaborations, and events that provide women with opportunities to grow, connect, and stay aligned with their goals. Through our coaching, events, and retail offerings, we create a supportive space where women feel empowered to transform their lives, build meaningful relationships, and take aligned action toward their dreams. 

A key Aligned AF offering is our PAC Sprint, a 21-day accountability program that helps women set and achieve specific goals while fostering confidence and connection.  The intern will focus on developing partnerships with corporations to enroll their female employees in our PAC Sprint.  The intern will research and identify potential corporate partners, create compelling proposals, and build relationships with HR leaders. They will also develop marketing materials and help customize the program to align with corporate goals. 

The intern will primarily work in person out of The Lola (621 North Avenue, NE - near Ponce City Market). The Lola is close to Georgia Tech and the Beltline and accessible via MARTA.


Partner: Carrie's Closet of Georgia

Many of the vulnerable children we serve do not have the clothing and hygiene items they need.  Carrie's Closet brings clothing and hygiene items, such as diapers and menstrual products, to children who need them.  We use a mobile delivery model to make providing donations as easy and trauma-free as possible.  We start by collecting donations from the community, using traditional item and clothing drives.  Then, our volunteers sort the items and ensure they are clean and high quality.  Finally, we deliver the items to pop up shops where families can shop for free.  Our model has allowed us to serve more than 3000 children in four different counties.   

We are a clothing resource distribution organization that is designing our service to support rural counties.  We have three major projects our intern can engage with including: direct services with clothing distribution, fundraising (diaper drive and anniversary party), and strategic planning/management (board meetings and organization design/development).

This internship will be primarily located in Atlanta and is hybrid.  There will be opportunities to travel to other sites such as Columbus or Athens. It is preferred that the intern have access to a car to attend pop-up events and other service events within Metro Atlanta.


Partner: Cascade Springs Nature Conservancy

Cascade Springs Nature Conservancy is dedicated to fostering nature-based community development rooted in the four pillars of sustainability: human, social, environmental, and economic. Our mission is to connect and empower communities within the Utoy Creek watershed by engaging three key stakeholder groups: educational institutions, municipal partners, and community organizations, which play a vital role in co-developing a dynamic community center that will serve as the heart of our programming. Through collaboration, we aim to unite these groups in designing and implementing initiatives that align with the needs and the aspirations of the watershed communities.  We seek to create a hub for sustainable development that reflects the diverse voices of the Utoy Creek watershed.   

Our intern will focus primarily on grant writing and assisting with project management, leveraging an existing funding commitment from the municipality, and adding additional funds, along with pursuing a grant for the wayfinding system or a covered lean-to structure for the preserve.

This internship will be primarily  in person and located at the Nature Preserve in SW Atlanta, or local community meeting spaces.  Some remote work may be possible.  The intern will either need a car or access to MARTA.


Partner: Center for Civic Innovation

The Center for Civic Innovation’s mission is to strengthen civic engagement, scale community-designed interventions, and advocate for more effective local public policy that improves the social and economic well being of Atlanta’s  people and places.   The intern will likely focus on the 2025 municipal races in the City of Atlanta, informing and educating voters.

We have an office on Edgewood Avenue where the intern would work regularly. There is a MARTA station within walking distance of our offices.

Partner: City of Atlanta - Housing Help Center

The City of Atlanta Housing Help Center is a critical resource for residents facing housing insecurity.  Our mission is to prevent homelessness and promote housing stability by providing comprehensive assistance, resources, and advocacy to individuals and families in need.  We offer a range of services, including emergency rental assistance, housing counseling, homelessness prevention, and advocacy.  

The Community Engagement Navigator intern will support data collection and analysis related to community engagement initiatives.  This includes assisting with the development of surveys, tracking event attendance, in office client engagement, and analyzing feedback to inform program improvements.  The intern will gain valuable experience in data analysis and program evaluation.

Office is located at Two Peachtree Street, NW, Suite 2300, Atlanta.  The office is open from 9am - 5pm, Monday through Friday and the intern will be expected to work in-person.  The office is accessible by MARTA, or parking is available for a fee.  A car would be beneficial for travel to offsite meetings and workshops.


Partner: City of Atlanta - Mayor's Office of Sustainability and Resilience - Aglanta Team 

AgLanta is a City of Atlanta program dedicated to supporting Urban Agriculture and Food Systems initiatives. Our mission is to cultivate a more resilient and accessible food system for Atlanta. We serve residents, businesses, and visitors by fostering community and neighborhood farms, gardens, and food forests while supporting healthy food stores, rain gardens, pollinator gardens, compost & carbon collection systems, and controlled environment agriculture. The current goal is to ensure that by 2030, 100% of Atlanta residents have access to fresh, affordable food within a walkable 0.5 mile.

The intern will work with the City Food Systems Steering Committee, which is moving into the implementation stage.  The intern will work with stakeholder engagement, assisting with outreach efforts to stakeholders across Atlanta's food ecosystem and preparing for committee meetings and other events.  They will also provide committee meeting support, helping organize materials, prepare presentations, and track outcomes from the meetings. The intern may also support the team's intergovernmental liaison role, which focuses on internal city outreach.  They may have opportunities to contribute to building a cross-departmental City framework for food systems work.    

Some of the work will take place at Atlanta City Hall (55 Trinity Avenue, SW), with occasional local off-site partner visits, and 1 - 2 days per week remote.  The transportation requirements will depend on the nature of their tasks and locations they need to visit.  City Hall is accessible by MARTA, or parking is available for a fee.  A car would be beneficial for travel to offsite meetings and workshops.


Partner: City of Atlanta - Mayor's Office of Sustainability and Resilience

The City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Sustainability and Resilience leads science based analysis informed by the community to establish, develop, implement, and promote policies, programs, and initiatives related to environmental sustainability, climate resilience, circular economy, and food security.  

The summer intern will play a vital role in supporting key initiatives within the office, contributing to a variety of impactful projects.  These may include assisting in the creation of Atlanta's Comprehensive Climate Resilience Action Plan through research and cross-departmental collaboration; supporting the Interdepartmental Electric Vehicle Working Group by exploring innovative procurement models, streamlining EV charging permitting processes, and accelerating EV adoption; aiding in the implementation of the Commercial Building Energy Efficiency Ordinance via the BEAM Platform Dashboard to enhance compliance and data tracking; and helping to expand the City's Carbon Credit Program across four newly acquired properties using the City Forest Credits urban tree preservation protocol.  Additionally, the intern will research sustainability and resilience best practices to inform policy recommendations and advance Atlanta's climate and energy goals.  This work is critical to the City's efforts to address climate change, enhance resilience, and foster a sustainable future for Atlanta's residents and natural environment.

This internship will be hybrid, but the intern will need to travel each week (2 - 3 times a week) to City Hall in Downtown Atlanta which is accessible via MARTA.  Parking is available on site for a fee.  The intern will also participate in community events, meetings, presentations, City Council, etc.


Partner: Clean Cities Georgia

Clean Cities Georgia is a non-profit organization that is part of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Clean Cities and Communities Network with over 75 coalitions nationwide that strive to reduce emissions from diesel and gasoline, advance alternative forms of transportation, and improve domestic energy and economic security. As partners with DOE's Vehicle Technologies Office (VTO), Clean Cities Georgia deploys affordable, efficient, and clean transportation fuels; energy efficient mobility systems; and other fuel-saving technologies and practices. The summer Grants Fellow would assist with a variety of grant initiatives that focus on community engagement and education around electric vehicles and other modes of clean transportation and mobility.  The Grants Fellow would especially help with an initiative that helps to build capacity at Clean Cities Coalitions across the Southeast.  Tasks that the fellow might assist with include creating templates, documents, and spreadsheets to assist with coordinating with other SE coalitions, as well as assisting with grant reports.  Other tasks may include event coordination, including managing registration, or coordinating details for in-person events and educational webinars.

We are hosted at Southface Institute in Atlanta.  Southface is a hybrid work environment in order to reduce commuting emissions.  The intern will work in the office two days a week and remote the rest of the week. The intern would need reliable transportation (car, bike, MARTA) to travel to the Southface offices.


Partner: Community Health Aligning Revitalization Resilience and Sustainability

CHARRS' mission is to develop solutions to environmental, social, education, economic, and health disparities that impede access to health and wellness in African American and other marginalized communities.  Our work focuses on marginalized communities in Northwest and Southwest Atlanta.  With funding from our current HHS grant, we are working on building community capacity by developing community conversations about air quality, social determinants of health, climate change, roles and responsibilities of agencies, and emergency preparedness.  Past projects have included air monitoring using federally equivalent monitors (FEM); radon home testing, messaging, and mitigation; climate change, climate adaptation, and biodiversity; and an environmental health outdoor classroom that focused on EJ and maternal child health with a focus on Zika. 

The intern will likely focus on one of the following project areas: environmental and maternal health, air monitoring, community emergency preparedness and the local emergency management agency, organizational operations, Atlanta Repair Cafe, and/or community engagement.  Potential projects include analysis of nitrogen oxides and black carbon, researching health data, helping to compile information for grant applications, planning and implementing community forums, communications, mapping, writing standard operating procedures, and presentation.

This internship is located in Atlanta, and the intern will need a car to get to the work location, monitoring sites, and off-site meeting locations.


Partner: Fulton County Government

Fulton County encompasses 15 cities in the state of Georgia with nearly 1.1 million residents.  Fulton County has a Sustainability and Resilience Plan with many goals to be achieved by 2030.  Our intern will assist with data tracking and reporting related to the County's sustainability goals.

The work location in the Fulton County offices at 141 Pryor Street is two blocks from a MARTA station. The intern will need to be in the office several days per week and can take MARTA or drive.


Partner: Georgia Tech SCoRE Community Clean Energy Summer Pilot Program

The Community Clean Energy Innovation Program (CCEIP), run by GT SCoRE in collaboration with GT DirACC (Direct Air Capture Center), brings together technologists and community leaders to 1) learn about direct air carbon capture at the intersections of technology and communities and 2) explore innovative clean energy solutions that not only meet decarbonization goals but also provide tangible benefits to local communities. Building on this series, the Summer Pilot Program will support 3 - 4 community partners in Southeastern states to develop and incorporate education about emerging clean energy technologies into their local work.  The SCoRE intern will work as part of a team comprising the community partners, as well as SCoRE and other GT staff and faculty, to collaboratively develop strategies and materials and will support the community partner in deploying the materials in their work.

This internship will be hybrid. In-person work will take place at the SCoRE offices located on Georgia Tech's campus. The intern will likely travel once or twice to visit and work with partners in other locations in the Southeast. All out-of-town travel costs would be covered by SCoRE.


Partner: Georgia Watch

Georgia Watch is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that educates Georgia consumers on healthcare, energy, insurance, lending, and other issues that impact quality of life.  We have a regular presence at the State Capitol and have worked with legislators on various initiatives to serve the state's consumers.  We have tackled pressing consumer issues, especially those that disproportionately impact communities of color, people of lower income, and rural residents.  We encourage the adoption of policies that benefit financially vulnerable consumers, produce in-depth policy reports, raise awareness through the media, convene stakeholders to forge partnerships for change and promote policy solutions related to healthcare, home energy, economic opportunity, and civil courts.

Our intern will assist with work across all our impact areas, specifically healthcare access and financial protection for all Georgians.  Previous interns have assisted in conducting research on healthcare industry practices and policies, reviewing nonprofit hospital community health needs assessments and financial assistance policies, reviewing state and federal healthcare regulations, creating resources for the public on various healthcare topics, drafting graphics and fact sheets related to financial protection issues, creating social media advocacy tools, and attending coalition meetings.

Our office is located at 55 Marietta Street, NW, Suite 903.  Our office is hybrid, so the intern will need reliable transportation (car or MARTA) to work in -person when we are in the office.


Partner: Girls Going Global

Girls Going Global empowers girls to be global citizens by providing the tools, mentorship, and educational experiences to make their mark on the world.  Projects for this internship will fall under three areas: Programming/Curriculum - improve domestic programming, planning, and execution to ensure sustainability and feasible future scaling opportunities. Sample tasks include curriculum assessment, student focus groups, and program research; Marketing/Communications - create processes and systems to promote consistent awareness of GGG programs and goals.  Sample tasks include email marketing newsletters, and social media; Fundraising/Special Events - create and improve fundraising strategies and practices to improve organizational sustainability.  Sample tasks include grant research and developing a funder pitch deck.

This internship will be located at 151 Ellis Street in downtown Atlanta and is in person.  The intern will need reliable transportation via car or MARTA.


Partner: Henderson School Alumni Association Trust (HSAAT)

HSAAT's mission is to transform the surrounding Butts communities by repurposing the old Henderson High and Elementary School property to the Henderson Academy Community and Workforce Development Center for "Children and Family Wellbeing" in the Butts community, by developing collaborative partnerships creating five Community Centers of Hope for education, job creation, business development, health and wellness, and youth and senior recreation. 

The organization is focused on 1) creating programming that effectively engages the community; 2) developing a creative and sustainable funding strategy; and 3) redeveloping organizational structure for cultural inclusion.  Two potential projects include the development of collateral for fundraising (one-pagers, two-pagers, and editing video and verbal interviews that SCoRE has helped create) as well as supporting communication about the organization's progress and plans through social media.  Reaching a greater range of Jackson residents with the work of HSAAT and with opportunities to engage is key to the creation of effective programs, and a student who has a sense of how and where to reach 18 - 24 year olds as well as a student with some basic design skills would be extremely useful.  Students who have an interest in nonprofit and organizational development will learn a great deal and be a big benefit to HSAAT during this time of growth and transition.

The intern will work primarily in Atlanta, either in the SCoRE offices or co-working space with other students, but will be asked to come in person to Jackson, Georgia for a handful of specific events during the course of the summer and will need a way to get to Jackson or will need to coordinate with SCoRE staff to arrange a ride to Jackson 3 - 4 times over the summer.  Jackson is approximately 1.5 hours from Atlanta.
 

Partner: Hope for Youth (HYPE)

HYPE (Hope for Youth, Inc.) is a nonprofit youth development organization that empowers girls of color to confidently pursue 21st-century careers in computing and technology. Our education program equips girls of color with essential technology skills and prepares them to become future leaders of the technology workforce while encouraging them to tap into their existing curiosity and creativity to solve real-world problems.  We are establishing a diverse talent pipeline to fill high-demand roles in tech and tech-enabled careers, building girls' confidence while focusing on fostering a sense of community and belonging.  

We have two project options for an intern, depending on interest and skill set.  The first is for an automation engineer working on our operations team to help us automate our internal processes.  They would be working with systems such as Salesforce, Monday.com, Sharepoint, Slack, and GiveLively to implement APIs and integration processes that help the systems talk to each other automatically.  The second is working with our Marketing team as a social media and digital marketing intern, working with our marketing and communications manager to schedule social media posts, create marketing campaigns and digital ads, and track/report on progress using SEO.

This internship will be hybrid with a requirement to work in the office in person three days per week.  Our offices are located in the Old Fourth Ward in Atlanta.  The intern will need to get to the office via MARTA or their personal car.


Partner: Integrated Solutions

Impact Energy is a certified Black women-owned energy services company that focuses on energy efficiency project installation, workforce development, and civic engagement. We create frameworks to implement the cultural competency and integrated design thinking necessary for successful sustainable project and program development.   The intern will primarily support our workforce development program for minority owned businesses in the energy sector.  There will also be community engagement work with the 2025 SEEJ Summit and grant work with partner organizations like Clean Cities and others.

The internship will be hybrid, with the intern working in person several days a week from the SCoRE offices, and the rest from home.  


Partner: Lifecycle Building Center

Located in southwest Atlanta, Lifecycle Building Center’s (LBC) mission is to achieve environmental stewardship and community resilience by creating a sustainable lifecycle for the built environment. LBC was founded in 2011 to build the infrastructure needed to redirect reusable materials away from landfills and back into the local community to help economically disadvantaged residents affordably repair their homes while increasing energy efficiency. LBC has been a lead community based institutional convenor for the RebuildATL coalition, a network that comprises nine partners, all of which are embedded in and deeply connects to the Westside Atlanta communities they serve. The network includes nonprofits, institutions of higher education, and corporations, and has the support of several units of local government.  The network is expanding its deconstruction workforce development pathway facilitated by and for Atlanta's historic Westside communities.  Our coalition includes community partner organizations who are able to advise us on the specific needs of the unemployed/underemployed individuals they support who are prospects for the workforce training program.  Employer partners are also providing feedback on the skills needed by trainees in order to provide maximum value to their respective industries.

The intern will represent LBC and its engagement and role within the Rebuild ATL Network on 1) Green Workforce Training in planning and conducting deconstruction training as a core project to the ReBuild ATL scale community impact model and decarbonization objectives; and 2) LBC's contribution to expand awareness and capacity of diversion of building materials from conventional waste streams.  Materials are being used in affordable, single-family housing rehab, developing new ADUs, and energy efficiency retrofits for LMI owner-occupied homes, and urban micro farm installations in the target communities.  The intern will also have the opportunity to support LBC's partnership wit Georgia Tech's School of Architecture and community partners through and as part of a U.S Department of Energy's Recycle X Phase 2 Prize for remanufacturing locally sourced dimensional lumber from Georgia's film industry to mass produce (remanufacture) nail-laminated timber (the "NLT" part of their project name) panels for reuse in affordable housing projects and in offering a low-carbon material options, reduced construction labor costs, and faster construction.

We are a hybrid work environment. Our offices are located near the West End MARTA station, but more easily accessible via car. There are periodic meetings with network and coalition partners and site visits that require transportation. Intern must have personal safety gear - closed shoes etc. for deconstruction field work and warehouse operations.


Partner: Lilypad Health

At Lilypad Health, we are breaking down barriers in women's healthcare with our novel monitoring solution.  Across the US, women are not receiving the necessary care to live healthy lives.  Issues like inaccessibility to providers, invasive procedures, and medical distrust have led to a disparity that needs to be addressed.  At Lilypad Health, we have developed a device to collect a menstrual blood sample at home for seamless, non-invasive health monitoring.  With the Lilypad, users can receive personalized health data in the comfort of their homes, learn what their results mean, and connect with providers on potential next steps.  Menstrual blood has been shown to effectively monitor important biomarkers like A1c, HR-HPV, and even hormone levels.  Our mission is to provide more accessible testing, destigmatize women's health, and catch life-altering conditions early. The intern will have the chance to help us develop our mobile health platform, produce marketing content for our company, and help our team navigate the FDA pathway as we work to get our device approved for commercialization.

We are located near the Georgia Tech campus.


Partner: Park Pride

Park Pride helps communities enhance parks and greenspace through advocacy, volunteerism and capital improvements. We strive to help every community activate the power of parks.   We support community park stewardship and our intern will likely be assisting us with community consultations and feedback gathering (survey/interview style). They may also help update or produce new resources that will support community stewardship learning. 

Our intern will have a hybrid arrangement, working in the Park Pride office at least once a week in person.  Much of the anticipated project will involve meeting with community members, accompanied by our staff, all over our service area (Atlanta, Dekalb, Brookhaven).  In-person, co-working, events, and team meetings will also be offered in various locations. The intern would ideally have access to a vehicle for transportation to community sites.  Any costs associated with mileage and/or parking will be reimbursed.


Partner: PlantLanta

Plantlanta educates and empowers children & young adults to advance sustainability and community wellness in Atlanta through hands-on learning experiences. As a community-focused organization, Plantlanta bridges education and advocacy to create lasting impacts in underserved urban communities.  Through programs like Plantlanta State University (PSU) and STEM Stories, we provide experiential learning opportunities that inspire students to address challenge such as food insecurity, waste reduction, and climate change.  By collaborating with local farmers, educators, and organizations, we equip young leaders with the skills to build sustainable lifestyles and advocate for systemic change.  Beyond education, Plantlanta fosters resilience by supporting school garden initiatives, hosting community events, and promoting sustainable practices.  Interns with Plantlanta will join a mission-driven team, gaining hands-on experience in community engagement, program development, and sustainability.

The summer intern will support Plantlanta's educational initiatives, focusing on expanding the Plantlanta State University (PSU) Program and enhancing STEM Stories, an outreach program that brings science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts to life through storytelling and hands-on activities.  The intern will assist with developing educational content, facilitating workshops, supporting program logistics, and engaging with school partners. They will also help plan and coordinate our participation in the 2025 National Children's and Youth Garden Symposium, ensuring our presence aligns with our mission and showcases our community-driven work. The intern will play a crucial role in preparing for this event, whether by researching best practices, developing presentation materials, or coordinating travel and logistics. 

This internship is hybrid, with some in-person meeting in coworking space in Atlanta. . They will need transportation for any off-site meetings and/or events. 


Project: Praise House Project

The Praise House Project is a community based initiative which places multimedia, site specific public art installations within communities in order to uphold the African American histories and narratives of the area in an effort to address issues or erasure and systemic inequities.  Each Praise House is a small wooden structure with a fully immersive digital projection installation of a Ring Shout, created from archives and/or footage collected from the community in which it resides, with a sound installation emanating from within, inviting gatherings in safe spaces. The intern will primarily focus on the Praise House Project that is being installed at South-View Cemetery located in Historic Lakewood Heights.  The intern will assist with installation, art programming, and community programming support.

This internship will be in person.  The intern will require transportation to the studio offices in Atlanta, the Decatur site, and to the South-View Cemetery location (1900 Jonesboro Road, SE, Atlanta, 30315).  Access to a car is strongly recommended.


Partner: Refugee Women's Network

Refugee Women’s Network, Inc. (RWN) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering refugee and immigrant women to achieve self-sufficiency and leadership in their communities.  Founded by refugee women for refugee women, our mission is to provide pathways for economic empowerment, leadership development, and community integration.

The intern may assist with program coordination for the Economic Empowerment Program (EEP) by supporting workshops, creating materials, and engaging with participants to provide resources that foster financial literacy and job readiness.  Additionally, within the Chef's Club, an intern could help organize culinary training sessions, assist in marketing initiatives for participant's businesses, and support events that highlight the cultural and entrepreneurial talents of refugee and immigrant women.  These projects align with our mission to empower women and promote their leadership and self-sufficiency.  The intern's contributions will be invaluable in helping us deliver impactful programs while offering them hands-on experience in community development and nonprofit organizations.

The intern will be working out of our Decatur office. There is a bus from the Decatur MARTA station to the office, but a car would be ideal as some tasks may require travel to program sites, participant homes, or community events across the city. 


Partner: ReGen Community Advisory, Inc.

ReGen Community Advisory, Inc. is a community and economic development consulting firm that formulates community-centric approaches to urban and rural regeneration.  ReGen leads the Community and Economic Development (CED) consulting agency, prioritizing regeneration of vulnerable urban and rural low-to-moderate income communities, providing subject matter expert consulting to community-based organizations, nonprofits, government agencies, academic institutions, private sector entities, and resident groups.  We drive community strategy and sustainable growth by targeting catalytic investment including new energy efficient affordable housing, community-centric commercial development, livable wage job and career creating, resources to reduce energy costs, educational access and opportunity, and projects that improve healthy food access. We perform complex project/program design, implementation, management and/or monitoring to ensure intended impact, and conduct comprehensive assessments of underutilized assets, identifying strategic opportunities for resource redistribution that yield increases in resource utilization toward improving communities' social, economic, and environmental conditions.

Our intern will assist in advancing full rollout of a proprietary integrated programmatic approach for community and economic development.  This will also include advancing a new community impact model that tracks investment return.

This work is primarily in person in the Northwest Atlanta 30318 neighborhoods.  The location is accessible via MARTA and student will not need a car.  An transportation to off site locations and meetings will be provided.


Partner: Re'Generation Movement

Re’Generation Movement is a nonprofit organization that supports global youth diasporas to become peacebuilders and change-makers.  Our programs bring together both local and global communities.  We seek to empower global youth diasporas to become confident and competent leaders through offering peacebuilding and educational programs, creating spaces for diverse individuals to exchange stories, and leveraging our identities as global diasporas to advocate for peace.  Our intern will participate in leading Peace Playground, a creative nonviolence education program for K-5 children, Global Peacebuilders Camp, and a project of their own design with direct mentorship from Re'Gen staff.

The Re'Generation Movement office is located in Clarkston, GA and the intern will need transportation to and from that location.


Partner: Scraplanta

Scraplanta's work removes barriers for teachers, students, and artists to access affordable materials and workshops.  Our creative reuse center provides a joyful and inclusive space for the community to develop their inner artists while incorporating environmental stewardship into their practices.  We welcome the general public to our art supply thrift store, so people can de-stash on pre-loved craft supplies or stock up on materials for their classrooms, studios, social enterprises, and recreational spaces.

This summer we will launch our Green Fashion Academy Certificate Program, which is a series of workshops that show people how to start their own sustainable fashion enterprise.  We need interns to help facilitate the program through coordinating with sponsors and community educators.  This program is great for students who like event planning and logistics.

All work will take place in our Adair Park office, which is immediately accessible via the West End MARTA station.  


Partner: Step Ahead Scholars

Step Ahead Scholars provides college attainment exposure, guidance, and mentorship through graduation, and works to help Greater Atlanta students achieve success, economic well-being, and positive life outcomes.  We guide students from backgrounds without a family legacy of college attainment with customized to and through college guidance and mentoring that prepares them to thoughtfully embark on high value college experiences.  This support includes student success exposure and on campus leadership road mapping that encourage emotional well-being and comprehensive career transition development, so they can strive toward timely graduations and economic well-being.

Interns will assist in with student interfacing and planning as well as helping us assess and implement new and innovative strategic, sustainability operational initiatives.

Our interns will primarily be located on a day to day basis at our co-working space, The Lola, which is accessible to Marta.  They may be asked to work on a case by case basis at off site location in Atlanta for select programming opportunities.


Partner: Ubuntu Community Catalyst, Inc.

The mission of Ubuntu Community Catalyst is to partner with our neighbors and strengthen the local community.  We collaborate and support the best experts in community building.  We see a future where anyone who wants to help their community and neighbors has a platform to easily do so.  We work to create a better future for residents of the South Fulton region through fostering strong community bonds, providing educational platforms, connecting communities with political representatives, and connecting residents to resources.  

Our intern will be working with one of our Community Action Teams to develop a project that service the community.  One project a student may work on is starting a community garden or supporting efforts to pass legislation around cleaning up harmful chemicals from the South River.

The work share location is accessible by MARTA rail and bus line.  Ubuntu works from Club E, located in College Park.


Partner: West Atlanta Watershed Alliance

The West Atlanta Watershed Alliance (WAWA) is a community-based non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life within the West Atlanta Watershed by protecting, preserving, and restoring our community’s natural resources. WAWA's grassroots approach to organizing, research, community science, and education elevates local community knowledge and lived experiences, enabling residents to solve and address their environmental challenges. Our tag line is "growing a cleaner, greener, healthier, and more sustainable West Atlanta."  WAWA believes a healthy environment equals a healthy community.  We envision a community that protects our watershed and recognizes and appreciates our important connections to these vital resources, informed and engaged residents who fully participate in decision-making on issues that impact environmental quality, our health and community well-being, and strong environmental protections.  We also envision WAWA as a trusted thought leader and primary resource for West Atlanta communities seeking to advance environmental, community, and systems change.

Our intern will support the Proctor Creek Stewardship Council develop a web page (social media or website) highlighting their work, as well as developing a method of maintaining the site.  They will work with council members and partners to establish a program narrative via storytelling.  They will support the Atlanta Clean Energy Collective by assisting with recruitment of new members across the six highest energy burdened NPUs and support research for an Op-Ed on energy programs and resources across the Metro Atlanta area.  They will support awareness campaign development based on existing research, support wayfinding signage development, and develop a material budget matrix for tour and signage across the nature preserve's frequented locations.

This internship will be located on site at West Atlanta Watershed Alliance.  A car is recommended, although MARTA is possible.
